Venkatraman Thyagarajan joined the Varian Medical Systems Board of Directors in late 2008.  He also serves as vice chairman of the GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceuticals Ltd. Board, and as a director of Tata Consultancy Services, Ltd.  He holds an M.B.A degree from the Indian Institute of Management and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology.  Former positions with GlaxoSmithKline have included:

• area director for South East Asia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan
• area marketing director for Middle East, Africa, and Eastern Europe
